600 to Life? Why Not Life Without Parole

Here is another example of the insane sentencing practices of this state.   The Orange County Register stated a guy that molested four boys got sentenced to 600 to Life.

Why not just state that you have exteremly aggravated sexual abuse of children, you get life without parole.  None of this insane 600 to life to crap

I Did Not Watch The State Of Union. I Had Better Things to Do.

From CNN

President Obama returned to many of the themes from his campaign during his State of the Union address, calling for change and condemning partisanship in Washington, while maintaining an unflappable confidence that America’s best is yet to come.

“I campaigned on the promise of change, change we can believe in, the slogan went,” the president said in his Wednesday night address. “Right now, I know there are many Americans who aren’t sure if they still believe we can change, or that I can deliver it. But remember this: I never suggested that change would be easy or that I could do it alone.”

Despite his appeal for unity, response to his speech fell largely along partisan lines. His words left many encouraged, but others remained skeptical that this time, change would come.

“It’s not about rhetoric anymore … It’s about record. And that’s the issue he faces going forward,” said John Avlon, author of “Independent Nation: How Centrists Can Change American Politics.”

Obama rode into the White House on a wave of hope, rallying the base of the Democratic Party while winning over independent voters. A year into his presidency, however, polls suggest that much of the excitement has faded to disenchantment.

Personally, I did not watch the speech. I had better things to do like running and going to a 12-step meetings. Those speeches really do not mean that much. All they are is just talk. It is the action that counts far more than words.

On Selfishness

Chapter Four of the AA Big Book

“This is the how and why of it. First of all, we had to quit playing God. It didn’t work. Next, we decided that hereafter in this drama of life, God was going to be our Director. He is the Principal; we are His agents. He is the Father, and we are His children. Most good ideas are simple, and this concept was the keystone of the new and triumphant arch through which we passed to freedom”

My Comment: Selfishness is something that I could ill-afford. I have to be learn to be service in all my affairs. I must learn to be of service and not take pride over my charity. Service is the cure to the committee in my head.

But this a profound challenge given our inherent selfishness. I need to take this service from the rooms of AA, as OC Burner Meetup Organizer, at work, and my family. This should be one of my resolutions for this year.

14-Year Old Girl Gets Life In Prison

From the AP

A San Diego girl who admitted beating her adoptive mother to death with a claw hammer when she was 14 has been given 16 years to life in state prison.

Sixteen-year-old Heather Marie D’Aoust was sentenced Wednesday in Superior Court.

Prosecutors say D’Aoust, who has serious psychological problems, stuck her adoptive mother at least 15 times with the hammer in the kitchen of their Scripps Ranch home in May 2008.

Rebecca D’Aoust, 56, died at a hospital.

The girl had argued with her mother a day earlier. An FBI agent testified that the teen’s cell phone had a text message about her plans to kill her mother.

The teen pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon

My comment: This case does not merit a life sentence given the age of the offender. The state uses a mandatory sentence of 15 to life for second-degree murder. A state sentencing commission that would terminate indeterminate life sentences and replace longer determinate solution.

The sentence should be 22 years plus five years of post-release supervision.

Ohio Man Arrested on Charges of Urinating on $600-Worth of Steaks

Fox News reports

An Ohio man is in jail after police arrested him on charges of urinating on a meat counter at a Wal-Mart store, Cleveland’s Fox8.com reported.

Robert T. Jenkins, 21, of Canton, Ohio, was arrested at 1:30 a.m. local time on Friday morning, Lt. Linda Brown of the Canton Police Department told Fox8.com. Jenkins was charged with felony vandalism and disorderly conduct.

Jenkins was arrested after police responded to a call from an employee at the Wal-Mart store telling authorities that a man walked up to the meat counter and began urinating on the steaks, police told Fox8.com. The disorderly conduct destroyed more than $600 dollars in meat.

Police have not commented on whether alcohol or drugs played a role in Jenkin’s actions, the site reported.

Jenkins is currently being held in the Stark County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond, Fox8.com reporte”

My question is what did that accomplish.  He probably thought it was a stunt that he could impress his loser friends.

Squashed To Death

From the article

“A WOMAN who weighed 136kg has pleaded guilty to killing her much smaller boyfriend by sitting on him.

Police in Cleveland said Mia Landingham and Mikal Middleston-Bey, who have three children together, got into an argument in August.

During the altercation Landingham sat on Middleston-Bey, who weighed 54.4kg.

Landingham was sentenced to three years probation and 100 hours community service on Wednesday after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter, Fox8 reported.

She was immediately released from jail.

Her attorney told said there was a long history of domestic abuse in the relationship. He asked Judge Carolyn Friedland for leniency and pointed out she has no prior criminal record.

Landingham she was sorry for squashing the father of her children.

“I just want to say that I am sincerely sorry about this situation. I wish I could take it back,” she said.

During Landingham’s sentencing, her boyfriend’s family spoke of the pain she has caused their family.

“I just want to let you know how much you have hurt us by taking Mikal away from us,” said Sharon Phillips, the victim’s step-mother.

While Middleton-Bey’s family hoped Landingham would eventually be able to take part in her children’s lives, they were surprised that she got no additional jail time.

“So basically you can say that I can go sit on somebody and get probation?” said one of the victim’s sisters.

“I feel there wasn’t no justice.”

Landingham faced a maximum of five years behind bars.”

Ouch! That is not the way that I want to die!

Pa. man accused of breaking into home, cutting his hair and frying some chicken

From the AP

“EASTON, Pa. – An eastern Pennsylvania man was charged after he allegedly broke into a home, cut his hair and prepared fried chicken before being discovered. The man was charged with breaking into the home in Easton, about 50 miles north of Philadelphia. According to court documents, the homeowner returned home Sunday to discover him watching TV and cooking chicken.
Authorities said the man threw a rock through a front door window to get inside and appeared to have rummaged through every room in the house. He also took a shower.
The man faces burglary, criminal trespass and other charges and was being held on $15,000 bail.”

What a weirdo! He should be locked in a mental institution than a state prison.

Deluge

When I went to a lunch today, I experienced the deluge of rain. My pants got soaked, my shoes got soaked. Everything got soaked.

That is price for not remembering to bring an umberlla to work. Now, I am going to have to buy an umberlla tonight.
