Rick Santorum Tells People That University of California Do Not Teach American History

I kinda like Rick Santorum.  If I were a conservative, I would vote for him over Romney.  Romney is just too much corporatist for me.  However, it amazes me that Rick Santorum makes gaffes like telling people that the University of California  does not offer  United States history.  An excerpt from the Raw Story tells us more about Rick Santorum’s gaffe

“During a campaign stop in Wisconsin on Monday, Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum claimed that a number of the University of California’s ten campuses did not offer courses on American history.

“I was just reading something last night from the state of California,” he said, according to Think Progress. “And that the California universities – I think it’s seven or eight of the California system of universities don’t even teach an American history course. It’s not even available to be taught.”

“Just to tell you how bad it’s gotten in this country, where we’re trying to disconnect the American people from the roots of who we are, so they have an understanding of what America should be,” Santorum added.

He appeared to be making reference to an op-ed recently published in the Wall Street Journal by Peter Berkowitz of the National Association of Scholars, a conservative group that fights the “progressive agenda” in the lecture hall.

However, Think Progress found that UC campuses at Berkeley, Irvine, Davis, Los Angeles, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz all offered American history courses. UC San Francisco, a medical school, was the only campus that did not offer any American history course”

Rick Santorum is partially right because some UC campus do not require American history as part of the General Education requirements.  However, to state that the University of California does not teach American History classes is another gaffe that makes him unqualified for president.

Mitt Romney does not make gaffes like Rick Santorum does and therefore, clearly more qualified to be President than Rick Santorum.  Even though I think Santorum is more affable than Romney  is, I think that Rick Santorum would be the second coming of George Bush and therefore, should not be permitted to be President.
